How To Add Configurable Product In Magento 2
A configurable product is a group of simple products with unique SKU. The configurable product lets the customer choose options like (shirt colour). Every configuration has a simple product like (product for each colour).
Every option is a simple product with a unique SKU, Which makes it possible to follow inventory for every product variation. You can attain the same effect by using a simple product with custom options, without the knowledge to track inventory for each variation.
An example of a configurable product is clothing and any kind of product which has various options.
To create the configurable product
Follow the follwoing steps
step1: Create Configurable product

Steps to Create a configurable Product
Step1: Select the product type
- On the Admin panel, sidebar go to Catalog>Products
- Click on the upper right corner of the Add Product button and select the Configurable Product.
Step2: Attribute Set
- For the product, choose the Attribute set.
- Enter the name of the attribute set for search.
- Choose any attribute set for use.
Step3: Required settings
- Enter the name of the product.
- Enter the SKU of the product or Accept the default SKU because Magento takes the product name as default SKU.
- Set the product price.
Step4: Basic settings
- Choose None or Taxable goods.
- Set the quantity of the product.
- Set the stock status, the default value is In Stock.
- Set the product weight.
- Allocate the specific categories to the product, choose the existing category or create the new one.
- Select the country name.
Step5: Content
- Add the short description, which is mainly for RSS feed or product page etc
- Add the description that is displayed on the product page
Steps to Add Configuration
Add configuration is the important part of the configurable product.
- Click on the Configurations and go to Create configurations.
Step1: Select the attribute
- The progress bar shows the process and guides you through each step.
- Add a new attribute or select an attribute from the list
- If you want to add a new attribute, click on the create a new attribute.
- Complete the attribute details and click on the save attribute button.
- You can select the created attribute from the checkbox.
Step2: Complete the attribute values
- Select the value by clicking on the checkbox that you want to apply on the product.
- After selection, click on the Next button.
Step3: Configure the image, price and quantity
3.1: Configure the Images
Method1: Apply a single image to all SKUs.
- Click on the radio box and select apply single set images to all SKUs.
- Browse the desired image for your product.
Method2: Apply Unique images for each SKU
- Click on the radio box and select, apply unique images by attribute to each SKU
- Select the specific attribute and apply image for that.
- You can upload a different image for each attribute, either you can browse to the image or drag to the box, click on the bin for delete the image.
3.2: Configure Prices
Method1: Apply the same price for all SKUs
- Click on the radio box and select, Apply single price to all SKUs.
- set a specific price.
Method2: Apply a unique price for each SKUs
- Click on the radio box and select, Apply unique by attribute to each SKU.
- Select a specific attribute from the dropdown and set a specific price.
3.3: Configure the Quantity
Method1: Apply the same quantity for all SKUs
- Click on the radio box and select, Apply a single quantity to each SKU.
- Set a specific quantity for the product.
Method2: Apply unique quantity for each SKUs
- Click on the radio box and select, Apply unique quantity by attribute to each SKU
- Set the specific quantity.
- Click on the Next in the upper right corner to continue.
3.4: Generate the Product
- After completing all details, click on the Generate Product to add product.
- If you want to edit some details then click on Back.
Step4: Summary
Here is the product you are about to create.
Step5: Publish Product
- To publish the product click on the Save button and choose Save & Close.
- On the admin sidebar, click on the product and here you can check your new configurable product and its variations in the grid at the top of the list.
